Elden Ring is an upcoming action role-playing game for the PlayStation 5. Developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, it is considered to be the spiritual successor to the company's hit game "Shadow of the Colossus". The game was announced by president of Sony Interactive Entertainment America Shawn Layden during their PlayStation 5 reveal event. The game is set within a world full of mystery and peril, and FromSoftware has said that it will be their largest game to date. Players will take control of a custom protagonist, who chooses from one of FromSoftware's signature classes: swordsman, bowman, or sorcerer. The game will feature an all-new cooperative multiplayer mode, in which players team up and take on bosses together. Layden has said that the game will be a "truly next-gen" experience that takes advantage of the PlayStation 5's capabilities. Elden Ring is set to release in 2021.
